Got my local sports store flyer in the mail today advertising a Nike Footwear Blowout, featuring the "Discontinued Nike Free Training Shoe" ($79.99-99.99), with a picture of the 4.0 and 5.0. Is this official?

Is the Nike Free really any different then the Nike Sock Trainer from back in the 1980's?
The Free is not going away. There will be updates coming out next year.

I have often wondered that myself.
me too
I had a pair of the Nike Sock Trainer as a senior in high school. As I remember it they were fine for distance runs but you couldn't do anything up tempo in them. Don't remeber any hype about improved foot strength.
the sock trainer had a PU midsole and was pretty stiff. i still have a pair with only a couple miles on them.
the Free is much more flexible and has a more natural ride.
the toe spring looks similar on both but the feel and ride are very difft.
