Runners, the true effects of the sport beans have yet to be proven, especially when the point of such a product is for it to be absorbed into the body as quickly as possible.
THE MAJORITY OF THE SPORT BEAN GETS STUCK IN YOUR TEETH! So what is actually swallowed is actually quite inconsequential. Stick with gels that have a far greater absorption rate.
WTF, do you have braces or something? Anything stuck in your teeth will be gradually diluted by your mouth's saliva and go to your stomach.
I'm obviously a SportBeans fan, for a couple reasons:
1. They contain electrolytes as well as glucose (although admittedly the quantity might be too small to do any good).
2. Their main advantage is you can regulate your intake - a few at each water stop, say, or every 15 minutes, thus keeping your blood glucose levels relatively even. In contrast, most people suck down a gel every hour or so, get a big sugar rush followed by the body's insulin response which then lowers the glucose levels, necessitating another "fix."
3. They're not messy/sticky like gels, taste better, and YOUI CAN GET THROUGH AIPORT SECURITY WITH THEM ;-)
