How can I scan through this thread three times and still not see Alex Kasich mentioned even once. You guys meant W Va high school only?
Otherwise, ask Malmo how good he was?
Kasich wasn't from West Virginia.

The Beverly Hillbillies came from Limestone, Tennessee, ya big dummy.
List starts and ends with Burcham!

He made West Virginia a better place to live.
I actually found this thread by googling Jeff Roby and was curious how fast he ended up. He used to dust me back in HS. Anyone.....? Bueller????
Granted, he was mostly a prep phenom, but can’t believe no one has mentioned Jacob Burcham. 4:00 miler in high school.
Burcham has been mentioned several times.

Well, you have to remember you're talking about West Virginia. Most of the "official" records are way faster than anyone from West Virginia can actually run. They tend to lose track of the laps because it is hard to find anyone at most meets who had math after 3rd grade. As a result,it is rare for the full distance to be run in anything longer than 800 meters. Most distance races are at least 1 lap short. I think, for instance, that the real record for boys for 3200/2mile is around 10:30.

Idk why, but I am fascinated on such a random topic somehow coming back to life a few times after originally being posted 13 years ago lol..
I'll be driving through the beautiful state of West Virginia this weekend, I'll be sure to toast a cup of coffee (since I am driving) to the great runners that state has produced
Has Josh Edwards passed Burcham up for the WV GOAT? He definitely chose a better college to run for. What about the Hurricane Sophomore? Will he end up breaking all the records before it is all said and done?
Major Harris
James Jett has an Olympic Gold medal in track.
^first thought that came to mind
Was also interesting at the time to read about his life. He was one of the actual Hatfields, as in the violent Hatfield v McCoy feud, but by his time the war was over and his generation got along.

He’s a real idiot:
Anyhow, Chris Fox gets my vote.
