My money is on Buckner and Tulloh
My money is on Buckner and Tulloh
WTF? yeah, i really want to watch four old men run 3miles
Who cares
So there's somewhat of a problem. Today's "athletes" know little of the history of the sport. I know it is a small sample, but these repsonses confirm my opinion that the current crop care about only one thing.....themselves. You are the reason this sport is dying a slow death.
Think Chataway had the most "honors won", but was always intrigued by Tulloh racing barefoot on cinders.

or perhaps it just shows that the current crop are so pants that the only way to garner public interest is by dragging out some old geezers that peaked before most of us were even born!

But Chataway won the Thames Hare and Hounds opening handicap, you can't argue with form like that...
http://www.thameshareandhounds.org.uk/v3/reports.php?month=9&year=2006Bruce is a tough old fart and a real genetic rarity. Lungs on legs, that guy. I wouldn't be surprised to see him do something special for his age group.
No idea of recent form of the rest of the bunch... all great in their day.

I think its a good trait to have as a distance runner to only care about yourself! You need to be selfish to be successful!
I know a great deal about the sport and have read almost every autobiography written about the past running greats and study a great deal the history of the sport and have a large collection of video clips of the alltime great races so I think I have some grasp of the history behind athletics.
The reason I don't care who wins some charity race in the great north is because it adds no value to world class athletics! If you can tell me a way that watching this match up is going to help my athletics then I may admit I am wrong.
I would love to sit and have a beer with all these athletes to pick their minds about training. However how they do now jogging the Great North after not training like they did as a youngester really does not interest me! Maybe I am wrong!
Not quite. A lot of them worship Pre, but maybe just because they wishfully see a lot of him in them, though in reality conceitedness is the only trait they share.
I have attended, arranged and taken part in more than a few clinics featuring the likes of Lorraine Moller, Kenny Moore, Anne Audain, Billy Rodgers, etc and it amazes me how little is known of their past and how rude some of the elites were in dealing with them. Again, I know I am generalizing and there are some historians and current elites who can't get enough of this stuff, but this attitude amazes me.
