As a coach I used overspeed (stretching cables, pulley pulls) on sprinters and middle-distance guys and felt it was quite beneficial for them.
I remember "back in the day" (~1980?) that someone was using his VW to pull runners (I had also used a moped, but not for distance) through repeat four-minute miles, sub-nine two miles, etc., and got excellent results.
I've been out of coaching for quite a while. Has overspeed training/theory advanced? What equipment is used now? Has a solid theory of CNS or neuromuscular or muscular adaptation to this kind of training been published?
Basically, does anybody know anything about this these days, particularly (but not solely) with reference to distance runners? *Any* serious input appreciated...
