Who is the top Running Club in Canada in regards to coaching and competitiveness?
Speed River - Guelph
I guess the guys on the west coast aren't up yet!
I think PCH is pretty strong. In Toronto they just added Peter Pimm to move them up in the rankings.
Does 'Little Jamie' think they should meet at the monkey bars after school and settle it?
the one that Ed Whitlock belongs to
Earlier this week, the biggest was the Dawson College Running (away) club in Montreal.
club seal
Toronto Olympic Club
Toronto Olympic doesnt have anyone half decent older than 18. It is a joggers club. Would say Ottawa Lions are strongest in Canada.

It is a joggers club.TOC has, among others, the fastest 50+ runner in the country (Kooymans), and he's faster than all but 5-10 40+ runners at most distances (maybe not the marathon, I dunno), and can hang with most open runners.
The best all-around club is unarguably the Ottawa Lions. However there are lots of clubs that specify in various distances. I think if you're looking for the top mid/long distance club you want Speed River. The training group is the best in Canada (although those in Victoria might say otherwise). I don't think there are many who would argue that Dave Scott-Thomas doesn't know what he's doing with those guys.
Fun post this could turn into.
Let's try and keep track of cross-country and road results by Canadian distance runners from September 1st through
December 31st, 2006. I think it could get crazy if we included all age class and HS rankings for now, although could be a separate thread. I suggest only 3 categories --- 19 and under, open, 40 and over, Men and Women.
We come up with a way of assigning points, and after December 31st, we declare the top 20 distance running Clubs in Canada for the Fall of /'06 on the Road, over the Country, and in total... In the meantime,
we start developing rules/guidelines for the year of '07.
Maybe we need a minimum reporting standard (time-wise).
Any thoughts???
I'll get together a brief summary of Island Races since
September 1st and post later....
can canadian's living and competing in the states count in your rankings if they are still affiliated with a club in the mother land???
Good question.
My first thought is we should consider limiting to runs in Canada, but maybe we should bat ideas around for a day or
so, and try and arrive at a consensus.
University runners - can they count for University and
Club points, or do we treat them as individuals during
season, and assign end-season points to who they were
running for in any given race.
Who's in, in terms of posting top results from their areas??? I will take Vancouver Island.
Distances ---- any road race (standard distance from 5K
through the Marathon) 5 / 8 / 10 / 12 / 20 / 1/2 / Full
Cross --- any distances --- points assigned from individual
races ---- Master final lists determined from Provincials,
Nationals, CI's, Conference Champs. (where held).
Got to go --- more later.
Prediction --- this thread will rock.
Suggestion --- can we leave all of our little juvenile jabs
for some other thread???
I'll second the Lions Gate for top club. Only because its a great club, not because we have anybody thats any good. For the Vancouver area I would say Kajaks has the most fast guys. Depends on how you define top club.
Saint Mary's University.
Ontario results on TnF, Quebec + Atlantic stuff on Trackie, and West coast on that other one. LoL, sorry I can't remember the name of it.
how about a main criteria being that the runners in the club compete and train in and around the club instead of being 'bought', living and training in another far away location, and wearing the singlet only to make the club look good and because it benefits them financially; so how can we define 'club runners' that are clearly attatched to the club in all the meaningful ways before we start saying what i think we are all going to hear soon, again?

Top club, or top team? I have two votes; the once powerful Van. Island Road Warriors and the ever consistent Team Who's Who. Neither were clubs in the strictest sense norwere that great competitively but were a group of highly cohesive runners who loved what they did for two annual events.
