I always run in trainers for runs longer than 75 minutes and I do all my trainings / tempo / track work-out in flats (ds racer, Gel hyper speed, etc..)
PR's
1000m = 2:23'54 (i)
1500m = 3:46'76
5k (road) = 14:29
Weekly mileage is around 90 to 140 km
Trainer in flats and run 14:07 and 3:44. But it's not what you train in its what your abilities are and how well you train.

I understand that but this is just something interesting to see. Its another variable to think about.
A more interesting question, I think: among those who now train in flats and formerly wore trainers (or vice versa), what are your respective PRs?

Beer Mile- 5:51
always been an average runner, made the switch from training in trainers to flats, PRd by 34 seconds in the 5k(XC), after going a whole year without a PR in any event. It all depends on what suits you.
Japan has most people beat, but this is one aspect of training. There are many other factors.
Stop the thread now.... A sub-6 beer mile is Outrageous!!!

I went from trainers to flats and have dropped my 5K road PR from 19 min. to 17:20 (I'm a woman). I haven't done a recent 5K road race to further better this time, but I've had PRs in other events the past year so my fitness continues to improve.
