Next week at the meet there is 50 minutes between the 1500 and the 800. Would i be able to recover or should i just pick one event?

Lets runner,
It will depend on your conditioning, but Fifty minutes should be plenty of time to recovery. Good luck!
Go by lessons learned in the past.
no. you don't stand a chance. if i were you, i wouldn't even bother running either race.
shut up you idiot. Whats wrong with giving a proper answer. I've never done 2 races in a day like this so i want to know if i'd have full recovery or not.
thanks for proper replies.
I did the reverse this summer - raced the 800, then came back 20-25 minutes later and raced 1500.
I actually managed to PR in both races, but the legs were pretty heavy for the 1500, and I think I probably could have run that one a little quicker without the earlier race, but who can say for sure.
If I'd raced 1500 first, I'm pretty sure the 800 would have been very hard for me, but I'm old. I think young runners can probably bounce back between MD races better than me.
You'll never know for sure until you try it. Good luck, and have fun!
it's easy to pr when you are slow!!
I would think it would depend on how hard the 1500 was. But I would say it is possible to pb in the second of two races, but you will not be fully recovered, so any pb you run in the second race would be smaller than if it was your first race.
You need to decide what you want. If you have set yourself a goal of running an 800 pb then go for it, don't run a 1500 first. If you want to run both, thats fine, but just go out and win both, if you run fast then thats a bonus, but don't expect to feel awesome in the second race

I agree with some of the above posters. It comes down to how strong you are. I have ran 2 heats/finals for both the 1500/800 in 2 days. Managed to come out with pb's that meet (3:57, 1:53).
Although I do believe that you have a better chance doing it on seperate days obviousely.
its possible ive pbd in the 3200 by 6 seconds and liek an hr 30 mins later pbd in the mile by 10 seconds
I tried the 1500-800 double a couple times my senior year. I ran 2:08 both times. My solo 800 races that season were 2:00 and 2:02 and my PR is 1:59. This was also with a good 2 hours between races. Both times I felt dead 300 meters into the 800. Some people seem to do fine doubling. I'm not sure what's wrong with me.
depends on the intensity of the 1500m race. If you cruise it it could actually help you run a better 800m later on.
I doubled a lot this past year and I do believe you could possibly pr in the second race. Definitly easier to do so because your coming down in distance. Its easier to come down from a longer distance to double back in a shorter quicker one than to go up in distance for the second race.
Come on. If you want to get the most out of yourself then just do the one race. Im sure you can do both, and run a pb in the second, but to get the most out of yourself, surely it's better to concentrate on the one race.
the problem with that is that its the last time in the season i'l get to do both comptitions and improve my pb.
Anyway i think since i'm slightly in better 1500m shape i'm going to do that and then i'll take the gamble and do the 800 which is after it.
thanks

Not necessarily (sp?)
In HS my PR in the 3200m was a 9:54 my senior year through the first half of the season. But at the end of the season 2 weeks before Districts, there is a huge meet in our area called the Meet Of Champions which is ran Olympic style. Which means you run Prelims for ALL events including 1600m and 3200m. On friday I qualified in both the 3200m (10:37, 6th in my heat) and the 1600m (4:33, 6th in my heat, ran in lane 3 and PR for me, previous 4:36).
The next day I ran a HUGE PR in my 3200m and ran 9:41 (I even bombed the last 200m by running 45 seconds!). And in the 1600m I basically ran another PR with a 4:34. Following at district I was by far more rested but only ran 9:53 in the 3200m (although the first 800m was really slow) and in the 1600m which was two days later i only PR'd by 1 second.
So it can be done it just takes really really good preperation.
Just like the other posters are saying it depends on how you run your 1500. I've been in that situation. If you can win the 1500 without pushing it too hard it will be easy to run the 800. One time I got pushed the whole way in my 1500 that I was burnt for the 800. Came through the first lap feeling great then a great bear jumped on my back and I got smoked during the second lap. You could have a great day however and do well in both. Stay confident and give it a shot.
i have done it on multiple occasions. in HS and in college and the PRs werent too shabby. so yes it can be done.
Obviously, the best performance would come from a single effort. However, i believe most do not warm up enough before a single event. if this is the case then you could be at an advantage depending on your training, race routine and prep.
I would think the best runners to succed from a double like this would be of the 1500 guy stepping down rather than the 800 stepping up.
Best of luck and let us know how you do and your analysis of the meet.
Its more than possible.
Just make sure you run a bit after your 1500, stretch, and run a bit more before your 800 followed by some strides.
Stay loose.
I did it but then again I didn't do it extremely fast i.e. 4:23 and 2:02. I think the adrenaline from getting my pr in the first race helped me in the 800.
