Ohio State Women name assistants

What is this head coach doing; who are these guys? How long will this staff stay above water? Is Robert Gary coaching the men and women's cross country team? A girl on the team told me 2 weeks ago that Rob did their summer training and was going to work with them through he fall. Has this changed with the Davis hire? Get ready for some Kenyan women!

Dennis is only worried about super loyal assistants, not if they're energetic or excitable. How on earth does OSU expect Gary to be head mens track, mens cross country, AND head womens cross country? Gary is being too nice, especially considering how bad the womens cross team is. BTW, Ron Davis is 64, but I don't think Dennis is too far behind.

I'm very optimistic about the men's squad. Women's...not so much.

Robert needn't worry about coaching the female distance runners as that would be an NCAA violation since they are a split program. Of course, we don't yet monitor email transmissions at THE Ohio State University. So if he wants to write their workouts and give them to Coach Dennis to administer (even if the workouts coincidentally happen at the same venues), then we could not do anything about that.

Even if you have two seperate head coaches, you are allowed to have six paid coaches total between the programs. If they want to share coaches, it is NOT a violation. It would inherently unfair for some programs to only get to use three coaches and other programs get to use six. Therefor, the NCAA does not ask schools to define their programs.

Show me one single rule in the NCAA Rulebook that says anything about seperate programs only using three coaches. There is not a single mention of it. Anywhere!

What happened to Chad Myers?

Chad had left sometime around April actually and i believe i read that he was at Otterbein.

Actually, anyone who has a clue about NCAA rules knows that if you are sep. programs, you can have three full time coaches and they can only coach that specific gender. See rule 11.7.4. If they are a combined program, then they can have six coaches work with both men and women (see 11.7.4.1). So, if OSU is a sep. program and they have three full-time coaches working with the women, plus R. Gary working with the women, then they are in violation as that is 4 paid full-time coaches working with one gender.

Now, if the Ath. Department has it set up where they are still considered a combined program with two "head" coaches, then they can all cross country. This is where the rule has a grey area. We shall see when the season gets going.

11.7.4.1 only states that any program that employs coaches that work with both programs can have the total number of coaches allowed. It says nothing about needing to designate the program as being seperate or combined. There is no designation. All you have to do is employ coaches that work with both programs on a daily basis.

11.7.4 states that you can have 3 paid coaches that work with the women, 3 paid coaches work with the men, period. If more than three paid coaches work with the women's team and the programs are not combined, then it is a violation as per 11.7.4. 11.7.4.1 states that if you are a combined program, you can have more than three work with a gender, up to the 6 allowable paid coaches per NCAA rules. All you have to do is call the compliance coordinator at the school you work at and they will explain this to you. Furthermore, just look at all the sep. programs out there - Tennessee, Alabama, Michigan, Arkansas - they have 3 coaches and they only coach one gender.

So the question is, is OSU truly a sep. program, or are they operating as a combined program with 2 head coaches. Your guess is as good as mine

There is no mention of any "designation" of seperate or combined. show me where you must designate this! It does not exist. All you have to show is that you employ people who work with both genders on a daily basis. No violation. Some programs choose to be seperate but can be combined if they want because there is not a single pice of paper at the NCAA that requires programs to define their program as seperate or combined. Show me this document and I'll suck your dick myself.

The press release says Ron Davis is the women's distance coach.

IF they want, they could have the set-up the University of Florida has with a head men track, head women track, and head men/women cross country. I am guessing that since Dennis waited until this late, Gary has organized everything logistically and has been asked to stand in until Davis gets to town and figures out what is going on. I am surprised actually because Rob seemed really excited about working with the women as well. In the past he just had his assitant (Myers) do the actual coaching of the women. However, this was before rob got the promotion to head mens track coach. Just shows you though how little Dennis even cares about women's cross country this last in the game!

In the Big Ten you can't "cross coach." Meaning a men's assistant in separate programs can't coach women athletes UNLESS the women's program does NOT have the full compliment of coaches (3). Not sure about NCAA rules, but that IS a Big 10 rule. And, last time I checked tOSU (the Ohio State University) was in the Big 10.

Besides, Ron Davis is the cross country coach now.

We don't know about the rules, but Coach Gary is our coach. Coach Dennis has not been able to tell us if or when Coach Davis will be here. Our AD told us that Coach Gary would be doing in through this fall.

I coach at Otterbein, and I was unaware that Chad Meyers was on our coaching staff.
