Planning on going back pack camping in RMNP the first week in October. How's the weather then? I see that it can vary a lot from 30 to 80 degrees. Anyone gone camping then during that time?

it will probably be COLD for october compared to whatever you're used to. expect snow and such.
Yea, prepare to freeze your nuts off.
Plan to be cold. It can snow in Denver/Boulder in September. The weather can be really nice 60s / 70s in October, so planning for the worst (winter conditions) would be best. On a related note, usually there are a few elk hunters who kick the bucket when they get caught in early season heavy snow.
Yes, you will freeze your nuts off then. It can get warmer during the day, but at night, be prepared for winter. Pretty standard stuff though. Have a base layer long sleeve, a down jacket, a waterproof shell, hats, gloves, thermal tights, and some nylon pants to go over that. With that, you should be fine for just about any weather. You're probably not going to encounter much snow on the ground unless it storms, but if you want, pack some gaiters. And have good hiking boots and socks, obviously.
