USA & kenya 4 x 8 splits

Too bad Sam Burley didn't run for the Canadian team. A team with Gary Reed, Achraf Tadili, Andrew Ellerton, and Sam Burley would give the American's and the Kenyan's a scare!

That would leave the door open for Christian Smith to run for the US. Nick Symmonds could be involved as well

KD is having a really really consistent season.

kenya has about 12 guys that could replace every one of those characters.

actual Omega timed splits were:

Kenya:

Mutua 1:46.73

Yiampoy 1:44.38

Kombich 1:45.92

Bungei 1:45.40

USA

Harris 1:47.05

Robinson 1:44.03

Burley 1:46.05

Krum 1:45.69

too bad christain smith wasnt on the team, that way the Americans would have the WR...

wow, that was crazy close at every split.

Smith should have been the lead off and K-rob should have been the anchor. Why Krumm was the anchor will always be a mystery to me.

Great race! I wonder why Khadevis didn't anchor. I think the record can go sub 7. Although I wonder when the next top 4x8 will be

The way the splits worked out, if Krum ran #2 and KD was anchor, the US might have been out of it after two legs.

As I looked at those splits, I couldn't help but think that back in the day (83-84), SMTC could have fielded a team to run that fast. Mack was at 1:44, Gray was too, West was 1:45, and they had a few 1:47-1:48 guys (Handlesman couldn't have helped since I don't believe he was American). By the time Jones and then Robinson ran for them, Mack was gone and West wasn't running well.

Anyway, great race by both nations. I sincerely hope we'll get to see a video of this race.

What don't you know about symmonds? He ran 1:45. He took second at USATF. What else is there to know?

Burley's also not Canadian.....

burley's got dual citizenship, he ran in the canadian nationals

So do I. Not only is he better, but I like his aggressive mentality better for an anchor. In fact, IMO we would've won with Robinson as our last leg.

Symmonds proved his un- fitness in Birmigham as did Christian. The team chosen was just fine. Give credit as it's due. The boys also snuck under the previous world record time.

Heres what my order would have been:

Harris

Burley

Krumm

Robinson

Burley did pretty well and would have gotten them near the front as a second leg, Krumm could have put them in first, and KD would have won the race. Ideally, the second leg would have been smith, but he was of course not on the team for some unknown reason.

I take that back, I took another look at Kenyas splits and it would have been better to have Krumm second leg and Burley third leg.
