what does EPO do for sprinters? It is an endurance boosting drug, so why would a sprinter take it? They don't need it for workouts, because a bunch of strides and drills aren't maxing out the body.

My neighbor works for Amgen, the company that owns EPO. He couldn't believe the news about Marion and EPO. Those were his exact word

aren't maxing out the body? are you another person who thinks that sprinters don't train hard?
yes, it's for training purposes. you can train more on it. kelli white has talked about that extensively. more red blood cells are good for just about any athlete.

Very true. A hard sprint workout will leave your legs like lead. Sprinters train very hard --just different. Maybe they only do 20 miles a week, but each mile is a hard as hell mutha. So MJ was able to keep the intensity going and going and going....

EPO isn't specific to "endurance building", EPO stimulates RBC production. Blood cells are needed for all competitors, sprinters, distances runners, jumpers and throwers. If you breathe or bleed you need red blood cells.
It gets them banned

But the average lifetime of RBCs is 120 days so taking EPO within a week of a track meet doesn't acheive much, rhEPO is only detectable a few days after administration.

The End.

Its bonds with the steroid and "hides" it.

Which, I think, means that Marion faces a 2-year ban for testing positive for stupidity.
what? so this company i've never heard of owns part of me? thank god for them or we all would have died long ago
There are EPO receptors in lots of organs including skeletal muscle. Not sure what they do there, but the body usually has a reason for having such receptors.
Sprinting is generally a natural gift.
Sprinters generally do not have natural endurance to train intensively day in and day out.
Give them something that allows them to train hard day in and day out.
EPO.
Why not just use good old fashioned autologous transfusions? I mean, they don't ban you from T&F for "abnormaly" high RBC count like the UCI does do they? It would be damned difficult to detect, but if somehow they found your frozen blood somewhere with your DNA, you would be screwed. You would have to hide it well, that would be your only worry (ok, besides sludging)
EPO offers the distance runner the most advantage (3:43 miles and 26:18 ten k's are the work of epo frauds) but the sprinter might use epo in order to do speed work everyday... Coe, recommended speed work everyday but the reason he could do so was because he was an epo star... clean distance runners go hard day/easyday but epo-ers go hard, hard, hard, hard, hard, etc. It's cheating. May they all get cancer and die.

which would be very ironic because EPO is used to help treat cancer. It stimulates the production of red blood cells killed during chemo or radiation (don't know which).
hmmm, well my cousin is a nurse and she says the abundance of epo is not good, it is naturally produced and a saturation of it might, might not, be good. We shall see in the yrs to come. Did you know that Geb pops 14 aspirin a day to thin his blood. You need a good doctor to do epo or you can die. (See cardiologist Rosa who worked for Fila with the Kenyans. He no coach, he a doctor.) Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. Running is a filty dirty sport after you do high school and college. Note how the h.s. and college records have not fallen off the planet like the pros. Don't support the KK's and Gebs. Expose them for what they are.
epo makes more rbcs. more rbcs means you can transport and process more oxygen, which means you can recover from your workouts faster. hence more quality work per week.

No, you are mis-appraising what allows the top runners to go hard, hard, hard. But go ahead, use lack of drugs as an excuse for why you can't do it if it makes you feel better.
EPO was created by Amgen for cancer treatment. It's used in conjection with checmo treatments to replace the lost red blood cells.Since epo is vital to cancer treatment, how can it cause cancer? Also, Amgen is the sponosr of the largest cycling race in the U.S. The Amgen Tour of California. They are also a sponsor of Track & Field.
