I'm sorry how is that the Emsley Carr Mile. Surely this prestigious event deserved to have a few more quality runners as guests and some more Brits. Its just a quad match with a mile that has been called the Emsley Carr Mile. It would be like Norway competing against Sweden, Denmark and Iceland in Oslo and calling the mile the Dream Mile - then some relative 'nobody' on the world stage gets to claim victory after years of illustrous winners.
I was there and it was very disappointing. When I heard that the meeting included the Emsley Carr Mile I was really pleased. Then I saw eight guys lining and I thought WTF??? They could have stuck a few guests in there to liven it up a little. Michael East got to the front and was determined to make it as slow as possible. Jennings took the lead down the back straight and looked quite strong in the end but it was difficult to take much from the race. For him, it's nice win of course and I know that these type of events don't often produce fast times but I couldnt help but feel a but short changed.
didn't christian smith run away with the ncaa indoor mile this year with a very fast second half?
A win is NOT a win. Going all the way across the pond to win a mile against this undistinguished bunch in 4:10 is not exactly career-enhancing. Nice trip, though, I guess.
gabe is there for a month and a half. this might be part of a team usa package deal with the world cup included.
anyone know did christian smith run a fast second half off a painfully slow first half this year for the ncaa indoor mile (or 1500m).
btw lukecik (sp.) just finished 3:41 in a fast golden leauge 1500.
well prior to this race i would have been surprised to see him beat baddeley and especially east.
The Emsley Carr Mile is an annual invitation 1 mile track race originally introduced to encourage the achievement of the first 4 minute mile. The Emsley Carr Mile Trophy comprises a book, bound in red Morocco leather, containing a history of mile running throughout the world since 1868 and signatures of many of the world's leading milers, including Paavo Nurmi, Sydney Wooderson, John Landy and Roger Bannister, as well as the winners below. This section lists venues and winners of the event since its' inception in 1953.

The first race was won by Gordon Pirie in 4.06.8
ill ask what everyone is already asking themselves... whats the name of the shoes jennings is wearing?
Although he's not in great shape this year (8 secs off his PR) I wouldn't include an Olympic 1500m 6th placer (only 2 yrs ago) in an "undistinguished bunch". Baddeley with PRs of 146 and 336 this year is no slouch either.

wrong...
the field was about as distinguished as you're going to get for the meet the race is a part of; the norwich union international is a meet between the US, GBR, Russia, and China. in the past i think this race is usually just an "open" invitational.
should be interesting to see lagat in a US singlet tomorrow in the 3K.

Exactly - A win IS a win...many races are tactical...
There were a lot of good finishers in the race. East wanted it slow for that reason and the two runner that finished last have 800 PRs of 1:45.28 and 1:44.8x. Smith killed the indoor mile at NCAA off an easy pace and he probably thought it would be a good chance to take this race given is recent breaching of the 1:44.8 barrier.
Note: This race is part of a competition (4-way) and the sole objective is to place high. Gabe would not have done a better job in meeting his objective if he had finished second in 3:53.
If you have a problem with this, do not bring it up with the athletes, bring it up with the TEAM coaches!
Does the Jennings guy always run like someone's shoved a cucumber up his arse?
