... how prepared would you be to deal with it? Instead of the $3-plus gas we have now, what if prices skyrocketed even more, causing supplies to be dedicated to key infrastructure and shipping/emergency vehicles only? Could you and your family handle getting on a bike/running/whatever to keep life as normal as possible?
I've been thinking about those questions a lot in the last few months. I live 15 miles from work, but I could telecommute mostly, and on other days getting to and from would be no problem by bike (weather permitting, of course). My kids could walk to their school, less than a mile away. The wife, however, may have a tougher time, but we'd figure out a way, I'm sure.
I had to take the middle kid to a doctors appointment earlier today, about seven miles away. I put two kids in a trailer behind my bike and one in a seat attached to my bike and had no trouble. In fact, because I know trails and back streets pretty well, what normally is a 25-minute drive took only 30 by bike.
Just curious. How would you handle it?
