As I was gutting out a scorchingly fast 5-mile tempo today (easily under 7 minute pace), I ran up behind a fellow who appeared to be wearing a racing singlet with a bib number pinned to the back. As I kicked him down over the last mile (6:14, B. I. Itch!), I saw that it was not a bib number but simply an iron-on jersey number. But this gave me the fantastic idea of wearing a bib number every time I go out for a run. That way, the fellows and ladies that I encounter on my routes will assume that not only am I a serious runner but that I am leading a race, and apparently by a large margin as nobody else with a bib number will be in sight.
Ladies, please let me know if this will earn me points with you. Fellows, please let me know if you will be blown away by my speed and racing savvy.
