what constitutes 2 days rest typically after a hard session, lets say a hard monday afternoon. 48 hours after, ie wednesday afternoon. or tuesday and wednesday easy, thus thursday? thanks!

If you ran a hard session this afternoon and a hard session tomorrow afternoon you wouldn't say that you had a rest day in between. So, I think two days rest would mean if you run hard on Monday, you have to take it easy on Tuesday and Wednesday.
On a side note, for someone who typically only runs once a day. I do find it helpful to vary the time of day I run so that I might only have 12 hours (1 night) of rest after an easier run, but then will have 36 hours (2 days, 1 night) after a harder run. Not quite the benefit of 2 full nights of sleep, but still better than nothing and it helps fit in more hard workouts in a week.
thanks for the reply. do you think a speedwork session tonight does not leave enough rest for a 5km race on thursday night? session was not killer. 3 x 600m at steady pace them 3 x 300m at full pace. not really much of a session really.
