your limiting who can recieve scholarships on the basis of country...definitly something discriminatory about that.

in xc, they had 4 burundians, 1 kenyan, 1 ugandan, and 1american. but what about candadians, new zealanders, etc? just quit whining about it and train you pussy. i can beat most foreigners because i train harder than them and want it more. go try it.

You could have made somewhat of a coherent point regarding this matter if you had discussed the issue of Kenyans, many of whom have no educational precedent to be admitted to colleges other than the school's aim to increase "diversity," as well as the subsequent problem of state schools issuing scholarships (which comes from taxpayer dollars) to these Kenyans for only running who then leave after school doing nothing to contribute to U.S. society, but the way you addressed the matter just makes you sound like a stupid bigot.

I have to say TL that your post was very well thought out and written. That is the only valid argument I can see on the issue, but for Headstrong to say "lets kick the Kenyans out", is pretty rediculous. Where does that start and end. Is it just Kenyans, or all foreign athletes? I am on a team that has talented foreigners, as well as Americans and I love the diversity. It gives you a perspective into other cultures and training philosophies of the world. I'm not saying open the flood gates and push every American kid out, but it sure gives you something to work harder for knowing that there are no "free" spots. Sounds like the very foundation that this country was built upon and still thrives on today.

A side note: if Boaz had not dominated the NCAA XC field in 2001, then my belief is that Torres would not have trained insanely the next summer for his 2002 victory. He still would have trained very hard, but Boaz raised the bar and Torres adjusted accordingly, and out of necessity, to win.

This is not why I believe in letting the foreigners compete, but just wanted to state.

Also, foreigners do not earn All-American status, no matter where they place, as they are ineligible to do so.

There are separate awards at NCAA's for US citizens anyway so nobody loses out.

So what are we saying here? that the Kenyans are super-human runners? That we can't and will never be able to compete with them? Give me a break. That's just like saying that the US shouldn't be allowed to play basketball in the olympics. They are HUMAN! LIKE US WHITEYS! Their culture revolves around running, it is their pastime...that is why they are good. Kick the Kenyans out? Are you some kind of Nazi? I agree with the above post about integrating cultures. I am on a team with a few Kenyans and love talking to them about their running, their life, anything.

yeah, why to eliminate competition? wait that is a great idea... make things easier so we can still get our ass handed to us in post collegiate international competition! if anything bringing in foreign competition raises the bar for us... so if you think for a moment this is a great idea, think again. its motivation for us as americans to go out and beat the competition. well your arguement is well supported one school... as an example, therefore the entire ncaa has kenyan plaguing its existence. great solid well thought out argument.

and one final thing, the great part about this country is its diversity, tolerance and acceptance of others... i say the more, the merrier. go train your ass off.

Not only are you a jackass, but you are suggesting we hurt our sport you moron. In addition, you must not even be a little close to All American cause you obviously have no idea how it works. There is an overall All American award and there is an All American just for Americans. i.e. top 6 AMERICANs are All American as well as top 6 overall (not sure on number). The Canadians and Irish are just as dominant in the NCAA as the Kenyans (Cragg, Brannan, Willis will probably all be NCAA champions this year in the 800, 1500, 3k, 5k, and possibly 10k). That is far more dominant than any Kenyan out there (inluding Boaz and Kipligat... not sure where Lekote is from... there are no others who have shot at winning NC's... though Etoot and Kangago aint too shabby in their own right).
