Been analysing this a lot lately, and experimenting.
I always did classic jog and strides, usually 2 miles jog, and a few 50m to 100m strides.
But lately, I have found a need to do some "long strides", or perhaps we could call them "warmup runs".
ie After a jog, 4x200m, or even a couple of tempo 400m efforts before some shorter runs. I now tell myself after the jog, depending on how I feel and what I am warming up for, that I will do 4 warmup runs, of 100m to 400m!!!
I feel more warmed up this way. Do any of you benefit from such runs during the warmup? Is there any benefit to getting into the "heavy breathing" zone on a longer run?
