Does anyone know how Zatopek progressed in his unique interval training?
I have heard two versions of his initial plan: one where he did 20x100 meters and one where he did 50x100 meters to start.
Thanks.
From Ken Doherty, Ph.D.; Modern Training for Running (1964)
pp 232;
In 1945 -- 10x200 and 10x100(100-150jogs)
or 1x100 and 20x50(similar jogs.
or 6x400 and 10x200(100-150jogs)
speeds..."quite fast"
In 1947 -- 5x100-150m(150jogs), 20x400(150jogs) and 5x100.
speeds; 400's, 67 - 77's
or 5x150, 20x250 and 5x150(150jogs each)
In 1948 -- 5x200, 20x400 and 5x200
In 1949 -- Basically same as '48
From '50-53- 5x200, 40x400, 5x200
Startin '54- 5x200, 40x400, 5x200 (AM) and then,
5x200, 30x400, 5x200 (PM) (100m jogs)
Speeds were slow initally, then as he became
accustomed, were sped up.
Elsewhere I have seen: 1956 -- 60x400 (one workout/day), as he was preparing for the Melbourne Olympic Marathon...
Zatopek did do other workouts, other than these. The above were just the bulk of his workouts.
Also, he reduced the reps and sped them up in the week prior to a race...
