I'm friends with her and she tore her achilles in 2005 and literally couldn't walk, or sleep because of the pain. They told her it was only flared though so it wasn't treated properly. She ended up taking six months off and even after that said she still had trouble running on it. After getting hurt her soph, junior and senior year she would rush back and hammer herself into the ground to get back into shape. She worked harder than I have ever seen anyone and did a great job but I think it was really draining to keep on trying to come back that fast. We watched her get really upset and not really be her peppy little self anymore. I think because there were unrealistic expectations on her to pop back into shape in a month and she was really hard on herself because she felt like she couldn't do what they were asking of her. After struggling for such a long time and being a little distraught about it, I think she really needed to put things into perspective in her life. Which was pretty difficult because she loves competing and the social part and obviously it would be a hard situation for anyone to go through. I think she works in finance now and does great. She still has alot of supporters in running who are trying to get her to get back into it that know her really well, and know her talent. Hopefully after a little bit of a breather she can make a come back. If not though, she has already done amazing things and best of luck to her.
