Its pretty normal to feel that way, but once you get used to all the bumps, elbows, being spiked, and or punched that go on during a XC or track it becomes second nature to throw a elbow or a fist into a dudes back/kidney area!
Totally normal. There also seems to be a code where runners help each other as far as pacing etc and sharing turns leading into the wind. In my experience anmyway.
Craig Masback actually apologized for beating Eamonn Coghlan in the '79 Golden Mile.
I once apologized to an opponent for having slept with his sister the night before.
I'm said sorry for passing people...lol...I suck...
My most common apology is clipping someone when I draft off them. Unless it's a really big race, I'll also take the pace for awhile as pennance.
I said sorry after I pushed this guy into the mud and ran on top of him with spikes. I feel it was more than enough for an apology.

He should have as he was on epo....
No,
But I did say "EF YOU" to an elitist letsrun.com pig on July 4th when I smokes his rear end.
Was running a local 5k race going into the last mile with a group of about 3 guys leading the race...
We had to make a sharp left turn...
The course was sort of a there and back type of thing...we were finishing the race as the walkers hadn't even got to the first mile yet..
The first two guys made the turn alright...i followed right behind them and right as i turned a walker is right in front of me....i see the deer in the headlights look in her eyes
I try to avoid her but she jumps the same way i'm going...i lower my shoulder and plow into her like a football player... i just roll over her.
I stop and turn around and she is laying on the ground screaming...scared me to death i thought i broke her leg or something...i look at her and say im' sorry and keep running...
Good thing is i still win the race and she was ok in the end....
The funnest part of it all was when I finish my friend said I had makeup all over my face.....can't believe someone would do a 5k race with makeup on.
