A while ago I responded to someone's post regarding approaches to high mileage training. In my response I mentioned that I have been having great success running 100mpw with no interval work, just weekly long tempos.
So, along comes a letsrun.com elitist questioning my legitimacy by asking for my PR's (since they could not believe any REAL runner could race well off of no interval work). At the time my 5K best was 17:20 which I candidly shared on the thread. This elicited a very negative reply by the elitist telling the world that my opinions/advice should be disregarded, going as far as to tell me that if I am running 100mpw for the past four months and only running 17:20’s then I should give it up.
Over the past year this elitist out’ed himself via various posts bragging of some of his accomplishments. I was able to figure out exactly who he was and that we lived in the same Geographic region (SoCal). Well, I am happy to tell the world that on this July 4 of 2006 I beat this MoFo HANDEDLY in a local 5K. He was at least 100 yards up on me in the first mile. Through mile two I slowly reeled him in. Then, when I was on his heels I started a 3/4 mile balls out push to the finish. As I passed I turned around, looked him in the eyes and said “Ef you . If you can’t beat a 17:20’s 5K’er you might as well give it up”. I finished 30 seconds ahead of him even though his time was not more than 10 seconds off of his PR. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE YOU ELITIST WASTE OF TIME LETSRUN.COM’R!!!!!
Man this feels good!
