Well I am assuming there are some computer nerds out there somewhere who can help me with this. When I am continuing a line of fortran code to a second line which space do I need to put a place holder in (I think its the 7th, but it hasn't been working)

Not really. Almost all serious development is done in C or C++ these days (yes, there are exceptions). The only folks using FORTRAN now are old engineers a few years away from retirement. Ask your prof why they're not teaching C. Heck, we teach C to our freshman Comp Sci students (finally dumped Pascal a few years back).
Are you an engineering student, and if so, where?

I took Fortran in 1986, and I have learned a bunch of languges since. It didn't do a thing for me. I remember spending lots of time just getting the thing to round the digits, format to currency, and other meaningless stuff like that. I would check when your school's add/drop deadline is, and enroll in a class that is relevant to today's times. Most intro computer courses spend lots of time just explaining how an if/then/else works, do loops, etc., and the stuff is basically the same for all languages. If that's what you're thinking will benefit you, I suggest you drop Fortran, and add C++.
Come to think of it, I haven't used Trig. a single time in my life.
excel vba will do much much more for you with much much less effort. I took Intro to C and had to take days off from work to do the homework - took like 15 minutes in VBA. Dropped that class. Of course if you are Comp Sci ( i was econ - do financial stuff now ), I have no standing to give you advice. Screw it - go run for an hour and the answer will come to you. Just bring a pen and write it on the back of a clif bar. Good luck.
I'm a IT/Engineering Recruiter, and I don't know of any company that is using Fortran. I'm sure coding in Fortran is a good mental exercise, but that's about it. C++, Java and even Visual Basic are much more functional than Fortran. What's next, a class on PL/1 or REXX or FOCUS?

For anyone who cares I found out the answer was line 6. Thanks for everyones help. I plan on being in the research science field and since all the old eng. are teaching and making sure their students are using fortran, fortran will continue to be the language for research scientists till some professor decides to learn C and teach his students that (granted I know in the work place C is widely used). Which has not happened
All of the nukes in the US are currently programmed in FORTRAN. I hope someone knows the language...
