Men who wear backpacks just look like a man-child. I’ve started carrying my things around in a cardboard box. Is there a better option like a tackle box or messenger bag?

pockets, baby bjorn, wheelbarrow
I wear a bag over my shoulder--if it's a heavy load, two bags, one over either shoulder. (When I'm carrying a men's hammer/women's hammer/men's shot/women's shot, I divvy it up so there's ~25# on each shoulder.)
I'm from a generation before the now universal toting of stuff to school in a backpack. Backpacks have never felt comfortable to me.

Trader Joe's bags now seem to be the vessel of choice, at least in NYC. They're pretty much ubiquitous here.
Has a college teammate who carried everything around campus in a pillow case
Prison wallet, obviously.
I got married to a woman that carries a large purse. She carries all my stuff. The beauty of it is she also manages all communication with my side of the family and all my doctors and dentist appointments.
It's been a real game changer in my life. Highly recommend.
Why don't women's clothes have pockets? I often have to carry my wife's stuff if we go out to a more formal or athletic event.
I like backpacks and I am 32 and married. I like being a young manchild ;)
I gave up on backpacks after getting mine stolen out of my car a dozen years ago with a couple thousand dollars of gear inside. I switched to using reusable grocery bags. Looks like just junk scrunched up in the footwell or maybe groceries if I have to leave something in the car.
A fanny pack of course.
This is actually I've thought about over the years.
Obvious answer is in your pockets - if its cool a jacket can provide more pocket space. Of course there are things that won't fit like a book to read on the train. If I'm driving somewhere, just storing stuff in my car until I need it is usually a good enough solution, but if I take a train into Boston, NY, etc. maybe I need to carry a book, umbrella, maybe my track gear if I'm racing but want to hang out first.
-Backpack is probably the most logical solution, if inelequent.
-You can check a bag for up to 24 hours at some amtrak stations for a fee
-gym locker can be used for storage
-Nobody blinks twice at a laptop bag, messenger bag, or briefcase. Its 2026 and you can carry a purse if you want - these things are basically just man purses anyways, from a certain point of view - especially if you aren't carrying stuff just for your job.

You could put the backpack in your trunk out of view. If someone breaks into your trunk, they are taking whatever, even in grocery bags anyways most likely.

They usually let purses into these. Sometimes even a minibackpack can meet the bag allowance at stadiums - though I've seen the posted rules being enforced inconsistently - sometimes they say they're allowed and don't let them in.
What the hell are you carrying around ? Key's, wallet, phone. That's all you need.

- spikes, trainers, and a change of clothes if I'm going to a track meet
- a book to read (yes there are ebooks, but thats really not how I like to read)
-sometimes my laptop (lets say it was just this though - need a bag for it)
-if I go shopping, possibly whatever I buy
Sure, if you drove keys, a wallet, and phone are all you need. My scenario case is that I take the train into Boston from an outer station, then spend the day in Boston (and I live in a junky small town so going into Boston is worth it) and leave in the evening or at night. I do this infrequently enough that its worth spending the whole day there and worth having whatever stuff I take.
I should do the amtrak gear check more often I guess. There are times I've had to take nothing and read on my phone because I was going to an event or show in the evening.
Why don't I just drive in to Boston? Because driving into Boston is a horrific experience - its super stressful and like hell on earth driving in Boston and parking is usually $40 to boot.
50 gallon Hefty bag
