So, I'm in the Kohl's department store looking for something else, when I walk past the shoe section and notice they have a ton of Nike runnign shoes there, but nothing I've ever heard of, and nothing more than $59.
What's the deal with these shoes? When replacing shoes every other month at $119 a pop, that gets expensive.
Thoughts?
They are Nike's low-end shoes. I doubt you'll see a pair of Zoom Elites, but I've seen just the basic nike running shoe with the air bubble and rubber waffle outsole...which as you said, will probably last a lot longer than your high-ends with the dualon bottoms that can't make it past 250 miles. don't get too excited though, you can find those same shoes at kohl's for even cheaper at eastbay or finishline.
All of those cheaper Nike's are not built on running specific lasts meaning they will not have the same cushioning properties of a trainer available at a running speciality store. So, I would not recommend wearing them for training. My suggestion, however, would be to join your local running club and receive a club discount at your local shop.

Yes and the Nikes at the running stores have magic dust inside to make you fly. Come on, Peter Pan, grow up. Our Nike runners are built on the same running last as your Zoom Elite and even have the same standards and manufacturing specifications. Our Kohls only shoes may cost Nike less to produce but the profit margins are the same for both of us. And you better believe that if Nike doesn't sell enough Zoom Elites to your running stores then we'll have all the Zoom Elites we want at a fraction of the price; just a few months later. If you want to support the 500 running stores in this great country, power to you brother, but if you already sleep well at night, then buy your shoes 6-12 months later at Kohls.

Thanks, Herb! I really enjoy the Asics 1110s I bought a few months back for only $49.95! They're just as good as the 1110s I originally bought at the special running emporium / walker hangout for $80.00.
I don't think the attitude and "advice" I got from the stuck up skinny kid who kept prattling on about his almost Trials qual-something or another was worth the extra $30. I also was able to score a couple of ties! Fleet Feet couldn't provide those!
I ran in a pair of Nike's low end running shoes once. Got an IT Band injury..:) Of course that could be because it was the first time I tried to switch back to trainers from racing flats.
