People forget a lot of good teams did not even make the World cup. The list includes, Scotland, Ireland, Nigeria, and Russia. Maybe the Scots eat too much and couldn't make the cup.
The US team will be back and the MLS will continue on into the next century playing second fiddle to the NBA, MLB, and the NFL.
U.S. are the best in CONCACAF - not sure how they stack up against the rest of the world.
I hope Portugal takes down the boring English side in the next round.

Agree that USA soccer is not in the top 20. Their coach is most likely done and good for that. Brucey Baby wanted them to think defense first and they played a boring deliberate style of soccer that gave them way too many chances to score. I doubt that many teams in MLS could compete in the lower classes in Europe. The best athletes in the USA are not playing soccer. As much as I like soccer, I prefer to watch the Europeans(Chelsea, Manchester United, Aresenal,Real Madrid, AC Milan, ect.) to any of the MLS crap.
The US team will have a Euro coach for the next World Cup. Maybe Hiddink can be a paid assassin again.

The game was 2-1 after an overtime. They also advanced out of their group, something the US fialed to do. They also won a game, something the US failed to do. The fact of the matter is that in their most recent head-to-head match (which was critical for World Cup qualifying), Mexico was not only the inferior team, but they managed to play 90 minutes with a big "0" on the scoreboard.
It doesn't take a Rhodes Scholar to figure out who the better team was in that match.
