Samia went to American Univ. now trains with Scott Raczko (Alan Webb's Coach) in Northern VA.
Akbar's significant improvement does not surprise me. Her coach coaches my daugther's team as well as Alan Webb. Although perhaps not the most approachable guy and still a bit young in terms of maturity, beyond question he knows his stuff. Believe me, I long had my doubts - but again, Akbar's two plus minute improvement in the 10k is yet another example of his coaching ability.
What about Melissa Cook? Who is she? I have not seen that name on the national scene.
More like a >30 second improvement for akbar.
She doesn't normally run the 10k, but she has [just] the fastest PR in the field from that Stanford race in 2005 where Rudolph, Smith and McGregor all ran around 31.20. So, not that much of an upset.
While the race went almost instantly to the pack of 4, Victoria Jackson did a nice job of staying within herself, and closing the gap a bit at the end.
She is Melissa Gulli, formerly of Texas A&M. Married Andrew Cook, another Aggie.
