Great time by Gabe in the trials round! What's his PR - 3:34 from 2000? Is he back?

however he also has those races like the mile in the 4 teens and then last week he could barely manage 59s in that 1200m. understand there was only two others in the race but you think he could do better than that in a time trial before nationals.
i hope he does well sunday and then does something next fall that is not too crazy so he arrives next year ready to work.
Another thread talked how distance runners gave boring interviews. It'd be nice to see Gabe do well, even if its only to bring some good quotes to an interview and to attract the casual fan. Mostly to get more track on TV.
don't call it a come back
Go Gabe!
I always have been, always will be a Jennings fan. Even if he blows the final I'm glad he came back this far.
Now that El G has retired Gabe won't have to live up to his proclamtion of running with him.
Even as a fan of Gabe's, I've got to admit that sounded pretty crazy to say. However, what he said actually was just put into words wrong. What he really meant was that he had to envision in his mind that he could compete with the best in the world. He was trying to get himself into that positive mindset. El G was simply reference as an example...

Please...he had just bombed and said he looked into el g's eyes and knew he would own him....something to that extent. I like Gabe, but don't downplay his stupidity involved in that statement.
What's wrong with trying to pump one's self up? Other athletes do it all the time only to lose. Better than saying "Yeah, I'll never be able to beat that guy".

take the cucumber out of your ass...
El G retired because he knew Gabe would eventually be back...this is it...
Is Gabe still smoking pot.

Not true, Mrr82 is right. There's a difference between stupidity and pumping yourself up. Clearly he didn't pump himself up as he disapeered into oblivion in the competitive track world for years. He made comments that were beyond moronic about how he'd own El G, and then got even slower and got in fights with monkeys while biking.
Pot may actually help him run faster.
all this shit, the bike, the fights with monkeys, training in kenya,... and those hips are probably still not opened up.
i hope if nothing else gabe comes to terms with the hips.
Pot will show up quick in a drug test. Gabe would do well as snowboarder.
At least now Gabe has a time needed to qualify for the trials. I am sure he will run another 3:39 before the next Olympic trials. I guess when you make a comeback you take incremental steps. Nobody expects another 3:35 off the bat.
Gabe is a sub 4-minuter miler again.
GOOD FOR HIM.
It is on the Level-2 banned list, so I doubt he is smoking it (ask John Capel).
