Did it with a fairly even split too (52.0-52.4). Wonder what he will go for at NCAAs. 1500m seems like it would logically be the best but he has thus far been better in the 800m for whatever reason.
Davidsen looked great, meaning smooth, under control, with plenty left, in the recent workout video that focused on Sahlman. I did not know he had this kind of speed but he looked like he was ready to hammer a 5000m.
He is good but he is not great. In the age of bicarbonate, 1:44 ain’t all that. There is a HS kid who can do that.
Just because the greatest high school runner of all time is able to do run better doesn't make what Sahlman did any less impressive.
Actually it does. We are in a different era. 1:44 just isn’t that special anymore. Colin does have pretty good endurance though, so maybe he will show us something impressive after all. If he could run 3:30, that would turn some heads.

Would be cool to see him run the 800 at nationals. Who was the last person to win the 3k indoors and the 800 outdoors? Favor-Hamilton?

Clearly not an all-out effort, Sahlman went through 200 in like a 26.6. I think he's a 1:42 high guy at worst right now tbh. I think rooting against this guy might be a rather unpleasant hobby moving forward.

This is absurd. He ran 1:44, NOT 1:42. I am not “rooting against this guy.” On the contrary, I would hope he can move past being the Craig Engels of the NCAA. He can do much better than that.

How is he the Craig Engels of the NCAA? He won two titles and broke a collegiate record, Engels didn’t do that

The new norm - any College kid who doesn't run 1.42 is going to be labelled a loser as ONE HSer ever has run 1.42, now everyone else sucks if they don't beat that time. Cooper has ruined the event for College kids now (and he won't even compete in the NCAA). They might as well avoid the event in future, as regardless of how well they are doing, they will always be compared negatively to Cooper L. Just like HS kids today are still compared to Alan Webb - although that is fading a quarter century later (and Cooper is at an arguably higher relative level than Webb) as the best of them these days are not American (Myers, Ruthe, Laros, Ingebrigtsen).
He ran 3:34 two years ago so he is 100% a 3:32/3:33 guy now based on huge 3000, 800 and XC improvements. I’d say what is mystifying is that he hasn’t run low 3:30s and hasn’t been able to put it together in championship 1500s yet.

Yeah you are probably right on this one - given who we have seen run under 3.34 collegiately he is most likely a sub 3.32.0 guy and probably on par with a pro like Ciattei.
But I'd still run the 800 at the NCAAs if I was him - it's his best shot to win the chip.
He is growing into a very dangerous runner. The older guys best be paying attention
I don’t quite agree with this. Colin ran 13:23 a couple weeks ago and placed 5th. So he is now a 1:44.42 and 13:23 runner, so how is he “very dangerous?” He will be 23 in October. Colin is intriguing because he has the tools to be a solid 1500m runner, but he hasn’t yet shown how this separates him from his peers, many of whom have better 5000m ability.
