Joshua Cooper picked up where he left off from the indoor season on Saturday at the All-American Track Classic in Columbia, S.C., opening his outdoor campaign with a nation-leading 1:49.00 in the boys 800 meters.
The Willow Spring NC junior ran away with the race, winning by over three seconds with a new personal best. Cooper is now over half a second ahead of Preston Sangely (Spanish River FL) for the national lead.
Last summer, Cooper took third in the 800 at Nike Outdoor Nationals behind Cooper Lutkenhaus and Bodey Lutes, neither of whom are competing on the high school scene this year.
