Women aged 25-29 fell almost 5%, while 30-34 increased only a bit more than 2%, not enough to offset this.
Women, don't wait too long, it's going to be much harder once you hit 30.

ok gooner
I remember when Trump first got re-elected, I didn't have sex for a fortnight. And that's on the other side of the world. I can't imagine the anti-libidinal effect he has on Americans.
From your comment about "don't wait too long", I think you are misunderstanding the article. They aren't saying that women are unable to get pregnant. They are saying women are choosing not to have kids as much in their 20s and that it has gone up in their 30s.
No one can afford kids even if they wanted them. Middle class is fast disappearing. Why bring kids in to the world where they will be subjected to wage slavery?
If you are actually concerned about this you would do something like support universal healthcare.

You are hoping some woman will read this and decide to settle with you, right?

Yeah really. With skyrocketing childcare costs, healthcare costs, education costs, utility and gas prices, inflation, an insane housing market, plus a wildly unpredictable and flailing president who is now threatening to destroy entire civilizations, why on earth WOULDN'T people want to breed in this country right now?
Im in my 30s and make 6 figures in a MCOL city. My rent is almost $2k/m. I am comfortable, eat out, and save for retirement. A kid would effectively turn my middle class status into poverty. Why would I do that or want that?
I was raised by parents who made significantly less, but I had a house, a college fund, and good childhood with vacations. They also worked less than I do now. None of that I could provide to a kid I have. Why would I want to give them a worse upbringing than I had?

The flip side to this quest for security before giving birth is it increases the chance that the child will have a defect or be autistic and require additional care and actually require someone to quit the workforce.

You make 6 figures and say having a kid would make you poor?
Most people in the UK earn less than 30k.

Daycare in the US is over $2k a month per child in a typical HCOL area.
For a middle class family it's usually more economical for the wife to stay home instead of working, where all her salary goes to daycare.
UK and European countries also have free health care.
Well said. My financials line up with yours, except I live in a very HCOL area and my wife has a similar income. My wife and I each have a younger sibling who is extremely troubled despite being a full-fledged adult. Both of our siblings are super dependent on our parents, despite being 24 and 27. Neither of us want to be responsible for a child like that.
Sure, my wife and I could have babies, or we could continue to enjoy life comfortably and have ample time / money for our hobbies and each other. DINK (Dual Income No Kids) seems like the best strategy to retire early and be happy.
We also don't feel particularly great about the current political climate. It doesn't seem like a great time to introduce a small human into the mix.
My parents were also from this HCOL area, btw. Despite only having one income (my mother was a STAH mom), they were able to afford a house lol. That's laughable for us despite working consistently after graduating college, paying off our loans ASAP. We did everything right except be born into wealth or a LCOL area.
It has little to do with the monetary cost of children. Hypothetically, if everyone was a billionaire (I mean equivalent in wealth, able to financially afford unlimited children), the birth rate might go up 0.382% or something. The real reasons are (1) birth control, (2) independence of men/women, (3) increased expectations of parenting role.
Edit: I meant the birth rate might go up 0.382, e.g. from 1.5 to 1.882.

The most obvious solution is to remove LGBTQ books from public libraries! /s
I advise my two adult children to NOT have kids. The world isn't on a good trajectory and there is no good reason to bring children into it. The wealthy want feudal servants, and the tech bros predict that they won't have jobs or economic utility in a decade or less.
I had kids young, sometimes they happen when you aren’t expecting it.
Not that big of a deal, you figure it out.
they are fun. Where we live everyone has kids.
