You feel bad for him and I feel bad for you. He can run 1:42 and you might be closer to 2:42? So everyone can be jealous of somebody.
Dude runs 1:42 and has the same life and earning potential as a middle manager at x corp.
Nobody’s jealous.
Well you should not be jealous of anyone period. But Cooper will likely make over $10 million in his career, which is not nothing, even factoring in inflation.

I know he’ll be fine. But it’s kinda like being a checkers prodigy.
If you could choose which sport you could be a prodigy in running would be way down the list.

Yeah but it would be above American football, where you might end up making $2 million for every concussion.
Pressure in running is also a lot worse for young people who have early success since it's so easy to assess and critique individual performance. Doing good means acquiring expectation of always doing good.

That’s absurd! Running is the best sport in the world. I wouldn’t wanna be great in anything more than in running! I’ve never watched a Super Bowl in my life. I couldn’t care less about balls.

Agreed.
This just in: OP discovers people do things for reasons other than money and fame, lol.
He might rekindle interest in track in the USA and boost everybody's earning potential.
It's been a while since a wholesome white American track star had this potential ( Jim Ryun, who was offered millions of dollars to turn pro at one point).
If he wins his home Olympics at age 19 and crushes everybody and breaks the WR, with a beaming Trump putting the gold medal around his neck, I can guarentee that even the average American who only knows Usain Bolt will sit up and take notice.
And what other sports would he be worth $100 million? Mostly sports like NFL or boxing in which he'd retire with CTE.

Fame does matter and he’s doing pretty well on that front. Without it, he wouldn’t have a sponsor.

Golf? He basically did the equivalent of a 17 year old winning the Masters.
Or NBA? LeBron and Kobe are comparable teen prodigies.
Just saying the guy has that level of talent and it happens to be in running. Kinda sucks that he’ll go mostly unnoticed.
Nobody knows who he is outside diehard track fans. He’s not famous.
Should he quit?
No he shouldn’t quit. I think his talent is generational. I just think it’s a shame that he won’t get the accolades he deserves because he happens to have talent in an under appreciated sport.
