This is sad to see, as Cooksey was just a nice guy. I was a "youngster," or sophomore, when he started at Navy. He kept to the field event guys, so as a distance guy I did not have too much contact with him. We knew he had high jumping experience and at the time, we had a great high jumper, Doug Williams. But Cooksey knew who we xc and distance guys were and was always friendly. After I graduated, I went to a Navy - UCSD - Pt. Loma Nazarene meet at Pt. Loma Nazarene when the Navy team was out on its West Coast tour during Spring Break for the school (when I was a Mid, we went down to Florida). I went up to Cooksey and he remembered me (which surprised me) and I asked if he could get me into the 5,000. He got me a number and I was able to race. Just a nice, quiet guy, which was a contrast to Al.

Al Cantello is literally a Hall of Fame coach who developed GENERATIONS of midshipmen into lethal, kinetic naval and marine corps officers, including astronaut Willie McCool. But yeah you go ahead with your defamation and slander

WAS, as is Cantello honorably passed away, but he IS in the hall of fame!
What makes you think you know more about Al Cantello than a midshipman distance runner who ran under his coaching?
I never was joined the millitary but I know plenty about Al Cantello to say that he was an honorable man, and have seen plenty of dishonorable men who don't deserve to where the uniform. I never joined but I am honorable

Bone spurs?
I had an offer from Cantello to run for him but it wasn't for me, but we had several brief interactions over the years, including when he was courting me, such as at running meets and such. Truly a GREAT MAN

when i see these mids slandering and defaming him its clear to me that they are dishonorable. plenty of dishonorable men have served, including chelsea manning. serving doens't make you better than me
I was one of the first athletes Cooksey coached. He was a nice guy, and he probably got a lot better over the years, but he didn't do a very good job with me or any of the other jumpers at Ball State University. I transferred to the University of New Mexico after my freshman year and eventually made All-American as a junior and senior. I know I wouldn't have if I had stayed.
