Predictable, all things considered, but still a huge bummer. I always have a pathetic little flame of hope that an American will win Boston, and this year Mantz was that hope. It’ll still be a great day, but I’m adjusting my expectations for the Americans big time. Meh.
Hasn't posted on strava since Mar 11, almost certainly injured again :(
Obviously his statement just mentioned his fitness, but him not posting says otherwise. Which is a bit odd, he'd been quite transparent about the injury when it occurred.
Either way, not a shocking development, but a big bummer.
My seasonal depression just came back with this post. Get well soon Conner.
The post about Gidey likely never coming back again has put me further down bad. If Kerr breaks the mile WR, I'm afraid I'll need to call a mental health hotline fr.
Great scott! Withdrawal from a future event is theoretically the fastest time posisble. It is numerically prior to 0h00min00 sec and inegative splits backward in time. Is this the true meaning of the phrase impossible is nothing? What I want known is whether does intervals at the local mall parking lot at 88 miles an hour after midnight, equiped with a flux capacitor, hydrates with Plutonium while being paced by the Libyans under the watchful eye of Coach Brown. On second thought, ignore all of the above and don't forget to save the clock tower.
Mantz completed 8 high-quality marathons in 3 years (Fall '22 - Fall '25). That is simply an unsustainable pace. Then he added a 9th while pacing his wife. Back in the 1970s when I first became involved in the sport, the rule of thumb was 1 per year. It's likely we've seen the end of his improvement curve. It's a shame, primarily because he seems like such a fine person, husband, and Dad. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Unfortunately, his American record was preempted... by me, in 2018, when I withdrew from the 2032 Boston Marathon.
Why bother to compete? Some East African will win yet again due to spineless race directors and his finish will only move up five or so years from now - when it won't matter.
Everyone should band together and BOYCOTT all prominent races until the right thing is done and Kenyan athletes are banned.

Bummer that guys like Bill Rodgers and Dick Beardsley didn't get that rule-of-thumb memo in the late 70s/early 80s.

He’s definitely not running with the other Provo pros right now. He had a flare up a couple weeks back and immediately stopped running to be cautious but it seems like maybe that flare up was worse than they originally thought.
