The thread title was initially incorrect. It said the NBA waived Ivey. We have corrected the title. Also the OP failed to provide a link explaining why Ivey, the 5th pick in the 2022 draft and the son of the Notre Dame women's basketball coach, was waived. Here is a link:
Cancel culture is truly out of control. He shouldn't be cut for stating his religious beliefs. Whatever happened to free speech?
LRC Friendly reminder. Please provide a link. Here is one explaining why Ivey, the 5th pick in the 2022 draft and the son of the Notre Dame women's basketball coach, was waived:
Never heard of him, I don't watch the nba. It sucks! His comments, that I saw, aren't so bad. Pride month is as ridiculous as it is unrighteous, some of the greatest Americans have one day, maybe. Shame
You are truly a dumb mfer if you believe this. Dude was live streaming and just decided to randomly rant about gay people. If he believed in his make believe book so much he would know not to hate but my guess is he is secretly craving the d and this is how he vents about it. Typical conservative behavior.
Just did a tad bit of research... he has a negative VORP (Value Over Replacement Player) for his career and has hardly played the past couple seasons due to serious injuries and poor performance.
He apparently recently put out a series of videos where he bashes, among other things, the NBA's celebration of Pride Month and the Catholic Church, calling it a "false religion".
So a mediocre, injury-plagued player who was already struggling to stay in the NBA decided to add "locker room cancer" and "PR problem" to his list of issues... bye-bye!
It’s stupid for even low level famous people to make public statements about controversial subjects. Just keep it to yourself, your private circle, and vote for politicians that reflect it.
This is all true, he was an average player but also it does seem like he has been abused when he was younger by a man I’m guessing, so kind of understand why he has gone down a rabbit hole, i could see that’s where your mind would go, looking for religion and being anti homosexuality there. It seems he is mentally unwell because of this. NBA will probably have to step in and give him support here as they should

When healthy, he is not a mediocre player- he’s way better than that. I’m guessing a guy with world-class athleticism is having a hard time coping with a (temporary? Permanent?) loss of the ability that might be central to his identity. I don’t agree with his content but I respect him and his family and hope he recovers.

He was averaging 17.6 points per game on 41% 3P FG at age 22 when he had his bad injury - definitely not average.

If an NBA player were to go on a live stream and say that MAGATs are evil, the President of the United States would personally get involved and attempt to have him removed from the league and you would make a post celebrating it. So just STFU, you whiny baby.

The OP is a RINO. This is just another example of him picking government overreach vs free market.
This guy must think he has all the money he will ever need. How can these stupid guys not understand that they will get canceled? How many millions did he just cost himself by getting pushed out of the league and all endorsements?
It is almost like actions have consequences. If you are a sports entertainer I don’t want to hear your politics. Being good at a game doesn’t mean you have anything useful to say.
If that sounds familiar it is because the right has said it for years.

It's not just famous people. Just about anyone that goes on social media and criticizes their employer, makes derogatory comments about a particular group and talks about their religious views in the workplace will likely be terminated.
You are there to do a job and nothing more. His job was only to play basketball.
