While Kerr has his "Project 222" and Keely has her unannounced WR race in sight, this year may also be remembered as the "Summer of Grant" where he'll reset all his prs while chasing ARs and possibly WRs along the way.
Very interesting podcast just dropped. From a couple of English gals, called The Runna Podcast, the day after the NYC Half. Different vibe from other interviews with Grant conducted by US podcasters. Lots of general background, lots of philosophical and psychological talk . . . but ending with bang for hardcore distance fans.
When they asked Grant "when will we see you next?', he reiterated it's back to the track for the rest of the year . . . but then provided some juicy morsels to digest:
-- DL races first and foremost, looking at races in Africa & Europe
-- Specifically mentioned Oslo (6/10), Paris (6/28) and Pre (7/4)
-- Mix of distances from 3000 to 10,000
Earlier this year, Grant specifically stated he wants to set a new pr in the 5000, sometime early in the season.
Oslo & Paris both have 5000s. Rabat (5/31) -- the only African DL meet -- and Oslo have 1500s. He'll be racing the 2 mile @ Pre.
Towards the end (around 44:30 mark), Grant is asked to design his "dream" race, including venue, distance and award presenter.
Location: Paris Olympic Stadium
Presenter: Eliud Kipchoge
Distance (his favorite): Surprise! It's not what you would presume.
Just a hunch: Rabat (maybe) & Oslo (likely) will be 1500 races. Grant's 5000 AR (WR?) attempt will come in Paris.
