I agree with this nearly 100%. I like to wear mine for races to collect data, but I NEVER look at the HR reading during a race. There's (almost always) ZERO value in knowing your HR during a race in real time. However, the readings can give you some interesting feedback over time, after the fact.
I've looked at my HR standing at the start line, and it's usually through the roof, even if I'm very relaxed. Means nothing, except I'm keyed up, waiting for the gun.
