No. 1:42.5 is incredibly fast. Hoey did it in a perfectly calibrated race, with lights and his bro pacing. Zero traffic, zero distractions. I do think the 800 will be won in sub-1:44 though.
He is more than capable eventually of doing this, but the race would have to be set up perfectly for him to do that with Pacers, which I don’t think it’s going to be obviously, so although he can run faster than his PR, he’s not going to break that record….. Today or anytime soon.

I think he may break Kipketers CR. The key checkpoint will be at 400. If Crestan takes it out under 51 and Cooper/he keep pushing it to 1:17.xx, it’ll be on. If Crestan opts to slow it after getting the pole times out the window.
It wouldn't surprise me. He ran 1:42 after running 1:45 and nearly being tripped at US nationals. His progression in high school so far has seen him perform really well during his indoor season peaks and he's still so young, so a time close to his outdoor PR isn't as crazy as it sounds. However, he doesn't have a Brazier, Hoppel, or Hoey in the race this time. It would help if someone besides him took it out hard. Still, the way he ran that 1:44 yesterday, I can see him dropping 1:42.31 by himself with the shape he looks like he's in.
Who knows if he will or not, but an interesting factoid is that he is well ahead of where David Rudisha was at this age.
Well last year as a U18, he was 1.1 seconds faster than anybody ever (Aman at number 2 in 1:43.37).
This year as a U20 (first year), he’s also faster than any U20 has ever been indoors and he has one year left in this category (technically 21 months left).
He already has the top two U20 i800m performances. could have top 3 by the end of the day.
