After a massive 1:42 effort (1:41 converted) at altitude in the Kenyan trials, Koitatoi Kidali made the Olympic team. The 22 year old then signed with Oregon to enter the NCAA as a freshman, where he was expected to dominate the record books and help the Ducks win national team titles.
In his debut year, he failed to score a single point at NCAAs and never ran remotely close to his PB. He has since disappeared from the Oregon roster, and there's no mention of him anywhere. He has not raced since the NCAA season ending last June.
What happened to him? Was he part of the massive Kenyan doping bust? Was Oregon made aware of this? Did they make any announcement regarding his departure? Seems extremely bizarre that a talent of this magnitude had zero impact at the collegiate level, and then inexplicably has not been heard from since.
