Anybody?? I have to do them in lanes 5 or 6. Thats the policy. Where do I start and finish???

I hate policies, too.
But your body doesn't know if your ran 1000m or 1023m. Just do "2-1/2 laps" and call it good.
just run in lanes 1-4 , who cares what they say
better yet find a track that truly doesnt care
im on a hughschool team and we're plagued by 50 year old ladies running in lane 1 , its fun to yell at them though
Just look for the staggers and figure it out. I suspect it's just a little farther than one full lap.
If you have a wheel, wheel off the distance of the 3 turn stagger in lane 5. Then, multiply by 5/3, and thats how far down lane 5 you should start. Use some medical tape to mark it.
What are you in main or something?
What??
consider yourself lucky. we're not even allowed to stand on the track: http://cablecarchase.com/kezar
why is that the policy? who made those rules?
Just multiply the distance of the 400 meter stager by 2.5 and start from there. Or you could go by time and run hard for 3 min. I prefer going by time because then you don't even need a track.

i love the movie man "you can't stand on the track!"
at my school's track i just move these wooden horses out of lane 1, nobody has ever gave me crap about it. then again i'm up there about everyday for the last yr.
If they don't allow runners in lane 1-4....what happens in lane 1-4?
Reserved for Pandas.
that sh!t was hillarious. "you can't stand on the track!" I can't wait to go back to SF!
From start, pace off 2 turn stagger (used for 400 meters)- keep going around turn until you've doubled the original distance, now add 1/2 that distance more (= 5-turn stagger). Find a twig or the like and lay it down next to the lane to mark the spot. If you want to run from the 200 meter mark, just pace it out from there.
I run 1600 repeats in lane 8 on the local track, using the same method to figure the 400 splits. Not that hard.
1000 meters--Select a lane any lane remember this number... measure you chosen lane to the 400 meter 3 turn stagger from the common finish line then multiply by 2.5 remember this number also. Move forward anti-clockwise to the start of the 200-remember the lane number you picked?-good-- go to it--add the other number of I told you to remember(it is the larger one of the two if you wrote them down but got them mixed up) add this length along the lane you picked....this is the spot you start from-mark it on the track with Generic(Magic) Marker( choose a color other than the track) Proceed to run-Stop the third time you pass the common finish line......voila 1000 meters.
Lane One and the other lanes are handled differently because of the curb in the lane. The distance is measured 30 cm from the curb, that is 30 cm into the lane that is 122cm wide. The other lanes are measured 20cm into the lane. Thus, the staggers between the lanes is not quite the same. They are in the range of 6m for the first and more for the outer lanes (I think). Try walking off the stagger for the 5th lane and remember to walk 20cm inside of the line (i.e., into the lane 20 cm) since you will be on the curve. You should get a distnace of about 25-30m per lap (two turns), so you can figure to run 2.5 x 427.5 and add a little more than proportionately for the distance to convert (e.g., the 1500 to mile conversion is about 7.5% by distance but 8% by time). It might be trickier to take out 2.5 x 25m because you would be taking out 2/3rds of one of the turns with "excess"; correcting for this drops you from 5 turns to 4.33 turns (so multiple 25+m/lap times 4.33/2 instead of by 2.5.
I have some more detailed info on the typical size of the staggers but something is not working right and it crashes the program when I tried to access it.
2.5 laps in lane 5 is 1078 meters.
