I started watching the old sitcom "Seinfeld" recently. Good show and a lot of the comedy holds up even for my generation. But I can't help but notice that everyone on the show looks 10 years older than the age they're supposed to be and absolutely no one is attractive. Even when a girl Jerry or George is dating is supposed to be hot, they're really just mid.
Were people in the 90s just not very attractive, or is this just a function of older film production technology?

I knew the weird boxy clothing was a 90s thing with suits that make guys look like they're kids dressed up in their dad's clothes, but wasn't expecting everyone to look old and excessively plain.

Wrong. Comedys, Soaps, Game Shows are not from L.A. gay artists. Cop, Fire, Rescue, War, Army have always been 100% macho gay shows, incl all vendors, craft services, cleaning services, etc. No Not the the real army, not the real LAPD. Only the film industry is 100% macho weight lifters, cross dressers, bikers, drags, many wear male makeup, etc.
In the nineties, girls wore flannel shirts, hiking boots, and boot cut jeans. It was a different time. They were still hot.

Jerry dates so many very attractive women over the course of the show. Either you’ve only seen a couple episodes, or you’re a 15 year old with a very narrow/muddled idea of what’s good looking.

These are attractive actresses, but it’s definitely true that something about the aesthetic of Seinfeld seems to blunt their attractiveness. Something about the way the show is shot and costumed just kind of makes everything look tired and frumpy.
Half the reason I watched Scrubs was that I thought Sarah Chalke was hot. I never turned on Seinfeld because I thought anyone on the show was sexy, even if the actresses were people I would find appealing in other settings.

Some non-machismo productions are open. But 3/4s of the business has alternative lifestyles of some variety.
