Some couples do; not all night, but most every night, especially in the early years.

Waste of money. I'm very wealthy. I had a courthouse wedding. Spent the money on the honeymoon. Totally worth it.

At least in some South American countries (and I assume the same may be true in some European countries), the government doesn't recognize religious wedding ceremonies as legally binding, so you need a civil ceremony whether or not you have a religious one.
Muh I’m one of the wealthiest people around but I would never get married. Shame.
Roster or girlfriend only………….::
Netherlands hardly have concept of big weddings. Most couples go for courthouse wedding. Some couples don't even do that and being in a Registered Partnership is pretty common and give almost same rights as married couples.
