I couldn’t find what the prize money is for 2026, but it was only $40K, $20K and $10K in 2024. That’s not much compensation for a 6 hour drive from Iten to Nairobi, a 15 hour flight to Worsaw and then a 3 hour drive to Kujawy Pomorze.

World Juniors doesn't have any prize money, but they'll still manage to send a strong team to that no doubt.

A pro runner has other options that a U20 doesn’t. Would you travel over 24 hours to compete in comparatively unimportant meet? 12 hours is a dealbreaker for elite Americans to compete in World XC.
