She just beat Wayment who is a 14:49 runner down the homestride (albeit narrowly). Things seem to be trending up.
There must really be something going on with Tuohy. Nobody could have ever imagined that she would be this bad. It can’t be injury, otherwise she wouldn’t be racing. All kinds of theories have already been proposed; she’s just milking her contract and not training seriously, she was on the sauce in college and is off it now, she is more focused on transitioning to coaching at NC State, something is happening in her personal life that is distracting her, she’s burned out….we’ve heard it all. Who knows what it could be, but she is barely cutting the mustard as a pro. I don’t know how long her contract is for, but I have a feeling it won’t get renewed and she won’t get a new sponsor.

Her body changed. she didn’t improve at the rate you wanted her too.
she matured quickly.
happens all the time with USA teens and young female phenoms.

"Barely cutting the mustard". How do u figure? Nothing she has run is even close to what she ran in college or maybe high-school

I think people are jumping to conclusions way too fast about Katelyn Tuohy. The transition from NCAA to pro running is rough for a lot of athletes. In college she was dominating the NCAA system at NC State Wolfpack, but the pro circuit is a completely different environment — deeper fields, different training structure, and usually a couple years of adjustment. Also, one indoor race or a 9:00 steeple/3k type performance doesn’t really tell the whole story. Plenty of runners take 1–2 seasons to stabilize after college. Even someone like Elise Cranny took time before hitting her stride as a pro. Beating Courtney Wayment in a close finish at least shows she still has some competitive closing speed. That’s not exactly the sign of someone completely washed. I’d wait until we see a full outdoor season before writing her off. Distance careers are long, and she’s still really young in pro terms.
