If you put the top 50 Americans in one race and made them go out @ 2:05 pace a lot would run very fast. Problem is a lot of people don’t want to put it all on the line. You have to train like a maniac, race like you don’t fear consequences. That’s the Japanese way. Too soft here. https://t.co/UKjPCBKwy8
He talks a big game as someone who has never touched a marathon podium.
He’s Canadian. Whaddya expect? 🤣leaf should talk about his own. 🍁
I think he's counting himself as part of the "Americans" here. He moved to Utah when he was 5 and lives in Flagstaff now. I mean he even says "Too soft here", not "Too soft there"
If I'm reading the his intent correctly you could probably substitute "Americans" for "Westerners"

In the beginning he said "them" not "us."
He said "here" because he resides in the USA and is talking about the other marathoners here. It's like if a 6 foot tall American moved to Southeast Asia, he might say, "The people here are short. If you put them in an international basketball competition, they would lose."

The former byu kid who has his own thread after running 2:07 in Japan actually gives a lot of credibility to this guys statement. Up the damn mileage already. Cam levins ain’t supposed to have been that fast I beat him in a college race(it was a 1500 but whatev it counts)

That's because he doesn't see himself as soft. Don't get too bent out of shape over this.
If Rory thinks the marathon runners here in the USA are too soft, he should move back to Canada. Or go to Japan if he loves "the Japanese way" so much.
