Look at his fancy shoes tho. A true blue collar runner like me can't afford those shoes.

He's racing in the Tokyo Marathon this weekend. That's where he set the current Canadian record.

Jerome Drayton, who held the Canadian marathon record for many years and won Boston, and won the Fukuoka Marathon three times, trained through the Toronto winters while holding down a full-time job.

He lives in Victoria, BC, where there ARE trails. But he's a new dad and is probably getting out when and where he can these days.

I want to add also it was also the North American record at the time.

This isnt Victoria. This is the St Johns neighborhood of Portland. Very suburban. He does the majority of his workouts on a single stretch of road, out and back.

You all have warped values. Not enough McMansions for you? I'd rather live in a highish density place with the hope of foot traffic. In fact my street -- hold on to your hat -- has renters!

There are some decent marathon training locations around North Portland. Sauvie island, flat and 12ish miles around is right there.

My wife and I see Cam running all the time, so I figure he must live pretty close to where we live. It's cool to be walking around in the park and see him fly by. I used to always tell my wife, "Hey, there's the North American record holder in the marathon again," but now lately I have to say "...Canadian record holder."

Last time I saw him, the weekend before last, he passed us twice, tailed by another guy on a bike who seemed amused that I recognize Cam and was pointing him out to my wife.

No, I'm not going to tell you which parks to go lurk around in, hoping to see Cam run past!

Looks like a good place to train, and training is his primary focus.

Seems like a safe, low traffic, maintained road with few distractions. That allows him to better focus internally on his training.
