And a new European record for the women in the same race too - Scotland's Megan Keith runs 30.07 to take a second off Scotland's Eilish McColgan's record. McColgan finished sixth today in 30.35, possibly not having recovered from running a fast half marathon in Japan since Germany last record in Valencia.
Yann Schrub breaks European 10km record with 26:43 in Castellon
Foppen paced first 5km in 13:21.
I was not familiar with the Ugandan (Harbet Kibet) winner but possibly that's my bad and he should have been on the radar.

"France’s Yann Schrub broke his first ever European record in the Castellon 10K on Sunday (22) morning, moving to sixth on the world all-time list with 26:43. In a race which was set up for Andreas Almgren to break his European record of 26:45, the Swede equalled his mark from Valencia last month but could only finish third in a high calibre race which saw four athletes break the 27 minute-barrier. Making his debut at the distance, Uganda’s Harbert Kibet cut loose in the latter stages for victory on his debut at the distance in 26:39 with the in-form Schrub winning the continental battle ahead of Almgren, crossing the line in 26:43 to shave two seconds from the Swede’s recently set record. "I hoped the French record [27:04 set by Etienne Daguinos in 2024] was possible but not the European record. It's a surprise for me," said Schrub who was crowned European champion at this distance at the inaugural European Running Championships in Brussels-Leuven last April. This was Schrub’s second record-breaking performance of the season after becoming just the fourth European in history to break the 7:30-barrier for 3000m indoors, eclipsing world 10,000m champion Jimmy Gressier’s French record with a 7:29.38 clocking in Metz at the start of the month. Having won European titles on the roads and at cross country, Schrub will continue his preparations for the European Athletics Championships in Birmingham from 10-16 August with increased confidence having won bronze in the 10,000m in 2022 and silver over the same distance in 2024."
I have to say I’m skeptical of 20 year old running 26:39: Harbert Kibet (UGA).
To be fair to him, he ran 13-flat on the roads last year, repped by Mezzo an agency I don’t see with much of a history of doped athletes, and he was a good junior (5th at World Jrs). Of course you can be critical of any athlete nowadays but not a 26-year-old self coached Rosa athlete coming out of nowhere.
Shame that Rhonex Kipruto gets to keep his world record, I view Kejelcha as the real world record holder.
It’s I think a testament to Yomif that despite once being coached by Alberto it feels like he’s above doping. Maybe that is naive? He’s been good but always had weaknesses no matter his coaching situation. Very well respected and admired by competitors. Wonder when we finally get the resolution on Kipruto from the CAS appeal.

How does that work? The AIU decision DQ'd all results from Sept. 2018 through May 2023. Does Kipruto need to exhaust his appeals before the WR can be formally stripped?
That's kind of come from nowhere. He's been solid for a long time, and I understand his medical training has probably compromised his running, but to drop from 27:20 to 26.43 in one go is quite extraordinary

His 3k/5k progression is much more steady. Also was 11th at world xc and ran 7:29 indoors for a PR 2 weeks ago.

10k is run rarely enough (especially on a fast course in good conditions) that you can get big improvements when everything clicks. I think at least a sub 27 could be expected based on his recent form.

He wasn't focusing on 10,000. The last couple of years, 2024/2025, he's focused on speed, bringing his 1500/5000 to 3:31/12:56, so it's in line with sub 27:00.
After his 7:29/3000 indoors two weeks ago, I thought he'd run around 26:50-26:55. 26:43 was extra special.
I'm 99.9% certain Dr Schrub is clean. Btw, have you heard of the "Hippocratic Oath" which all self respecting doctors abide by?
Schrub, the fastest guy with a full time job in the world !!
He was also the first euro runner at the XC world.
For the record, he's not always full-time - before important races he sometimes takes time off. Not sure about his exact schedule, but he has time off several weeks a year.
