Tayvon is now 8th on the NCAA all-time list! Updated top 10 list below with times from today's race in italics.
Note: Langon was already 4th before today with his 7:34.56 from the New Balance Grand Prix last month. Congratulations to Sands for cracking top 5!
Ethan Strand, 7:30.15
Parker Wolfe, 7:30.23
Yaseen Abdalla, 7:34.17
Marco Langon, 7:34.00
Colton Sands, 7:34.05
Liam Murphy, 7:35.47
Gary Martin, 7:36.09
Tayvon Kitchen, 7:36.23
Romain Legendre, 7:36.28
Drew Bosley, 7:36.42
Next 6 on the list are Colin Sahlman, George Couttie, Dylan Jacobs, Nico Young, Brian Musau, and Yared Nuguse. Amazing that Tayvon is now ahead of all those guys.
Love Tayvon's attitude. Not afraid to mix it up and make a big move against some of the best in the NCAA. He knows 7:36 is fast but he also pointed out that Cam Myers is the same age and just ran 7:27.
Because Tavyon is one of the whitest names you can get.
Okay, I have a question about this.
If it's pronounced Tay-VON, as I would assume based on the spelling, then it sounds like it would belong to a black kid. I assume that's where the jokes about his name come from, and it's why I was surprised the first time I saw a video of him after seeing the name in some write-ups.
But if it's pronounced TAY-vin, then that actually sounds exactly like the type of name that Mormons are giving their Gen Z and Gen Alpha kids. It blends right in with the Kasyn, Brynlee, Taylynn types. Surely, with him being Mormon, he pronounces it the latter way, right?
(This is no shade to him personally in either case. He didn't pick his name. And taking the lead in today's race to run 7:36 was wildly impressive.)
Tayvon is different man, I thought the 13:19 was crazy. Who is the 2nd fastest true freshman lol 7:56? I don’t think anybody last year would’ve guessed Owen Powell would be sitting home freshman year from national appearances, and Kitchen will be fighting for top 3-5 spots at NCAA’s.
He’s almost 30 seconds faster than his hs teammate who was beating him in the mile all last year. One of the most impressive Freshman years we’ve ever seen. Man if Daniel Simmons comes back 100% that’s a crazy top 2 at BYU.
