I can't believe this! Why and how does a skier get so much in endorsements?

Top athletes earn more in endorsements than their contracts. LeBron signed a $1bn contract w Nike.
Gu is the best in her sport. NIL athletes, some that won’t even go pro like Livvy Dunne, make $5+ mil a year or whatever, why wouldn’t Gu get $23m after reaching the top of her sport?

because she's a star in a country with over a billion people that has a lot of money (sure, per capita it's poorer than the US, but it's still relatively wealthy)
who goes skiing, rich people that's who. And they need a crapload of expensive equipment
1 reason I always hated how these Colorado snowboard culture types appropriated surfer lingo/culture. I don't surf but at least surfers aren't rich elitists
She was already at the $20 miliion level at 2022 games, as she was a leading athlete for China, the host.
In her spare time she even went to Stanford.
Obviously Shiffrin and Vonn make big money too as top US and World Cup skiers.

She’s pretty so she’s been able to attract a lot of fashionable brands and China has a huge market. That’s why she chose China over the U.S.
Yeah who would want some supersucessful hot chick to market their product?
She was so annoying during the metal photo shoots. Most fake looking person I've ever seen in the games. The other two women were living in the moment while she was positioning herself in ideal lighting and trying so hard to take the best photos she could. It was hella cringe once I realized how fake she was. She was terrified of her mom who is the BOSS , big time. She sucks.
Fake my A$$. She is a financial genius.

She’s not. Mathilde Gremaud is the real queen in freestyle skiing. Gu is just the most marketable.
Also, I see 12 year old boys doing harder tricks than she did in her Olympic run. No joke, lol.
Born and raised in the US and skis for China. Runs her mouth about US politics but is mute on Chinese politics. I get it’s about the $ but so glad she lost the gold.
I think it’s pretty lame to be born in the US, live in the US, enjoy all the benefits of not living in a country at odds with the West, and then compete for China

She has a rainbow on her IG bio. Does that mean she’s gayelle? Surprised China would be accepting of that.
Also heard she’s not even a Chinese citizen. Such fakery.
That’s the reason why she chose to represent China instead of the US. The Chinese are crazy obsessed with Olympic champions, especially in sports where they traditionally had no one at the top. They quickly embraced her and made her a major celebrity even before the 2022 winter games. She definitely wouldn’t be making as much money had she chosen to represent the US.
Great opportunity for GU to sponsor her!

Basketball is a bigger sport than skiing. Do any track athletes get even half the endorsement money that Gu gets?
Y'all know she ran on the state championship cross country team in high school?

It was totally in her best interest to do so, I agree. Just think it’s lame. She can laugh at me with her tens of millions
