Stetson University has officially announced it will launch an NCAA Division I, distance-focused outdoor track program starting with the 2027 season, expanding opportunities for its men’s and women’s cross-country athletes.
Was out at Stetson last month for a National Soccer Tournament with my daughter. The campus is beautiful and the coaches were nice. They don’t have my daughter’s major, otherwise I would seriously consider it.
Makes sense. A decent amount of Florida schools recently added track or got more serious about it thanks to the sunshine state conference adding track. Even though Stetson is D1 they are pretty similarly positioned to a lot of those schools and would get wiped by the top ones.
FGCU and Stetson used to have dual cross country meets in the spring since neither had track. It was pretty funny. Hopefully FGCU will follow suit.

Why isn't it she who's concerned with considering it....or anywhere?

Sorry, I should have said she isn’t considering it because it doesn’t have her major. The tournament had a couple dozen coaches there, some of whom have her major. So it was worthwhile. College is expensive, though, and while she has most of the say, there is a financial reality to the decision that may involve dear old dad’s pocketbook. The Northwestern coach was keen to point out that their school cost $97k a year and there are no merit based scholarships. She’s got quite a bit in her 529, but not enough to cover that.

Dad, you decide on the major, not her. Make sure it is realistic. It is not HER 529; it is yours. How much has she plowed into it?
Hope Northwestern has auto mechanics major and other such usefuls.
